I have released “Hanumat,” a calculation tool for Indian (Vedic) astrology.
I made this software because I wanted an instrument with which verification could be done easily. There are several excellent programs for Vedic astrology — Jagannatha Hora among them. Yet most of them run only in a desktop environment. The simple act of checking a calculation on the spot, the moment a question arises, was something I could never quite obtain.
Hanumat works the same way on a desktop, on a smartphone, and on a tablet, without difference. And it is powerful.
It does not store client information in any database. All saving is done entirely on the local device, so the privacy of those who come to be read is protected.
What set me to building it was a concrete occasion: encountering a case where the dasha calculations differed between one piece of software and another. Vedic astrology employs a great many intricate calculations, and it is not rare for users to go on relying upon them without noticing an error. Some of these points are matters on which the traditions themselves differ, and that makes it a difficult problem. Even so, I wished to prevent the avoidable errors as far as I possibly could.
Many of those who come for a reading arrive carrying a worry. In a setting that may turn the course of a person’s life, an error in calculation is not permissible.
There was one more thing I held to: noticing. Within a short span of time, to notice many things, and to judge which of them to draw upon — that rests on the astrologer’s own skill. It was precisely for that reason that I wanted an instrument able to bring a great deal of information within reach quickly.
At first I built it only for my own use. But thinking that it might be of help to the study of many astrologers, I have decided to make it public.
It is offered freely. Interpretation remains the art of the astrologer; this software only sets the board. Open it in a browser, and it is ready to use.
